Bevan Willis is 14 years old and lives in the small coastal town of Umdloti in KwaZulu Natal. He started surfing when he was 9 years old and was hooked from the first wave even though it hurt him and nearly ended in tears, he sucked it up and went straight back out there and has never looked back since.
He started to surf competitively in the Granola fun series 2008 and 2009. This is when his real talent and passion for surfing started to shine through, and he went on to make the KZN A surfing team from 2010 and each year since then, representing his province at SA Champs. He has won local contests and surfs for his local club Wave Wizards where he has been the series winner U14boys in 2010 and 2012. He is a lizzard team rider and is also sponsored by xcel wetsuits and fluidblue.
Bevan was selected for National trials in January 2013 in Seal Point and was chosen as the non-traveling reserve for the SA World Junior team - U16 boys. His year at a local level has also got off to a great start by winning the first round of KZN U15 boys trials.
Bevan is a fun loving kid who loves to be active but is a seriously hard worker when he puts his mind to something and as a scholar at Northwood boys high, he achieved over 80% aggregate for 2012. Bevan also surfs for the school first team and won the trophy for junior surfer of the year in 2012. He also plays hockey.
On the weekend, you will find Bevan at his local break in Umdloti surfing the point from sunrise to sunset with his brother, sister and friends. When the wind is blowing, he will be skateboarding or watching surf dvds at one of his many friends' houses or getting up to some boyish mischief.
Bevan has a naughty irresistible smile and is always up to something, although in a crowd he is quite shy and hangs in the background. He says the ocean is his home. He considers his coach of the last 4 years, Quinton Jones as his mentor and number one inspiration.
Just like that BOOM BOOM!!!
